Discover the Heart of the Desert on an Unforgettable Adventure

The 4-day excursion from Marrakech to the Erg Chebbi desert with 2 nights in Merzouga is an ideal experience for those who wish to thoroughly explore the magic of the Sahara. This route takes you through changing landscapes: from the High Atlas mountains to the rugged Todra gorges, the valleys dotted with kasbahs, and finally the great sea of golden dunes of Erg Chebbi, where you will have the opportunity to spend two unforgettable nights in the desert, one in a nomadic camp and another in a traditional riad.

Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas – Ait Ben Haddou – Dades Valley

Atlas Mountain Ascent and Cultural Visit to Ait Ben Haddou

We depart early from Marrakech and begin our journey through the High Atlas via the mountain pass Tizi n’Tichka (2,260 m). Panoramic views and Berber villages accompany us along the way until we reach Ait Ben Haddou, Morocco’s most famous earthen fortress and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, we enjoy a guided tour through its clay streets and crenellated towers.

Ouarzazate and the Landscapes of the Valley of Roses

After lunch, we head to Ouarzazate, where you can visit the Taourirt Kasbah or the country’s major film studios. Then we cross the spectacular Valley of Roses and finally arrive at the Dades Valley, where we will have dinner and spend the night in a charming riad overlooking the canyon.

Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Erfoud – Merzouga

Exploring the Todra Gorges

After breakfast, we continue along the “road of a thousand kasbahs” towards the impressive Todra Gorges. This limestone canyon, with walls up to 300 meters high, is one of Morocco’s most stunning natural destinations. We take a walk along its base where the river flows between the towering cliffs.

Journey to Merzouga and First Night at the Camp

We have lunch en route and pass through the palm groves of Tinejdad and Erfoud, known for their fossils and dates. Upon arriving in Merzouga, we prepare for a sunset camel trek across the Erg Chebbi dunes. We head to the Berber camp, where we spend a magical night under the stars with a traditional dinner and Saharan music around the fire.

Day 3: Merzouga – 4×4 Desert Tour – Khamlia – Hassi Lbied Oasis – Second Night in Hotel

Sunrise Among the Dunes and 4×4 Desert Exploration

We wake up early to watch the unforgettable sunrise over the dunes, a spectacle of light and color. After breakfast, we embark on a 4×4 excursion around the desert area: visiting the village of Khamlia, where we enjoy Gnawa music; the Hassi Lbied Oasis surrounded by palm trees; and an ancient kohl mine. We also have the opportunity to interact with nomadic families.

Second Night in a Traditional Riad in Merzouga

The afternoon is free to rest or enjoy the desert surroundings. Tonight we stay in a cozy hotel or riad in Merzouga with dinner included, providing comfort to recharge your energy.

Day 4: Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Azrou – Ifrane – Marrakech

Return Through the Middle Atlas and Ziz Valley

After breakfast, we begin our return journey to Marrakech by a completely different route. We pass through the lush Ziz Valley, covered with date palms, and cross the Middle Atlas with its forested landscapes and traditional villages.

Stops in Azrou and Ifrane, Morocco’s Little Switzerland

In Azrou, we pause in the cedar forest to see wild Barbary macaques. Then we pass through Ifrane, Morocco’s cleanest and most European-style town, known for its alpine houses and cool climate. We arrive in Marrakech in the afternoon, concluding a 4-day adventure full of contrasts and emotions.
