Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas – Ait Ben Haddou – Dades Valley
Departure from Marrakech and crossing the High Atlas
We start early from Marrakech. The route ascends through the winding roads of the High Atlas Mountains until reaching the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 m), the highest mountain pass in the country, offering spectacular views of mountains, valleys, and Berber villages.
Discovering the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou
We visit the impressive Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This ancient adobe ksar has been the backdrop for major films like Gladiator and Game of Thrones. Walking through its narrow alleys is like traveling back to Morocco’s caravan past.
Ouarzazate and the Valley of the Roses
We continue towards Ouarzazate, known as the “Gateway to the Desert.” Optionally, you can visit Taourirt Kasbah or the Atlas Film Studios. Later, we cross the charming Valley of the Roses, famous for its flower fields and handcrafted products.
Dinner and accommodation in the Dades Valley
We finish the day in the Dades Valley, surrounded by spectacular geological formations. Here, we enjoy a traditional dinner and stay overnight in a charming riad.
Day 2: Todra Gorges – Erfoud – Merzouga – Night in the Desert
Exploring the Todra Gorges
After breakfast, we head to the majestic Todra Gorges, a canyon with vertical walls reaching up to 300 meters high. We walk along its base where the river runs between cliffs and enjoy the impressive natural surroundings.
Caravan towards the Merzouga desert
We continue the journey along the route of a thousand kasbahs, crossing Berber villages and the oasis of Tinejdad. In Erfoud, a city known for its fossils and dates, we make a stop before entering the Merzouga desert.
Sunset camel ride through Erg Chebbi dunes
Upon arrival in Merzouga, we mount camels to cross the Erg Chebbi dunes. For about an hour, we slowly advance through the sea of sand while the sun sets on the horizon, creating an unforgettable play of light and shadows.
Dinner and overnight in a Berber camp
At the nomad camp where we are welcomed with tea. We enjoy a delicious dinner under the stars, accompanied by traditional Berber music around the fire. We sleep in tents equipped with beds, blankets, and shared or private bathrooms depending on the category.
Day 3: Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Midelt – Ifrane – Fez
Sunrise over the dunes and breakfast at the camp
We wake up early to admire the sunrise over the dunes, one of the most magical moments of the trip. Afterwards, we return by camel or 4×4 to the lodge where we have breakfast and prepare for the journey north.
Route through the Ziz Valley and Middle Atlas
We cross the picturesque Ziz Valley, with its millions of palm trees and endless oases. Then we ascend through the Middle Atlas, where the landscape changes dramatically to forested mountains, rivers, and green valleys.
Stops in Midelt and Ifrane, the “Moroccan Switzerland”
In Midelt, we pause for lunch. Later, we arrive at Ifrane, a surprisingly European-style town with sloped roofs and well-kept gardens, famous for its architecture and ski resort.
Arrival in Fez in the afternoon
Finally, we reach Fez, the oldest of Morocco’s imperial cities, with its labyrinthine medina, madrasas, and spiritual soul. The tour ends here, with your heart full of unforgettable memories.
